Tug O' Tiger?

The other day when I was hanging out with Mentee I asked what kind of games she played at school and this happened:

Mentee: Sometimes we play Tiger War.
Me: What is Tiger War?
Mentee: When you are on both sides of something and you pull it.
Me: Do you mean Tug O' War, like when you have two teams on a rope and you try to pull the other team?
Mentee: Yeah, but we call it Tiger War.
Me: I think it's called Tug O' War. Because you both try to Tug it really hard. And it's kinda like a war to win.
Mentee: No, it's Tiger War. Cos you pull with the strength of a Tiger! *Hand in Claws action*

Hahaha, it's moments like this when I love mentoring.

Quick update

I've been asked a few times lately about how Mentoring is going, so should make a quick update.
In short - really good!
We went swimming last night, and that was a bit of a pain because our usual pool was closed. The back up pool was being taken over for a swim event, so we only got half an hour. But she challenged herself and went to the deep end, so that was pretty awesome.
Then because we had spare time she visited my house, and when I showed her my Sylvanian Families collection she asked "do you ever play with them?" I knew that next time she visited we would be getting them out. Yus! this is a good excuse for me to tidy.

She has been cheerful and happy everytime I've seen her lately. I'm taking her to see the Hannah Montanna movie this weekend, with a few of the other Mentees. She loves Hannah Montana. Oh well.

Speaking of Sylvanian Families and happiness. I want this. I shall have it before Christmas.

Also planning a trip to Thailand in September. Oh work, why must you force me to take 10 day breaks before the end of the financial year. hehehe awesome. It worked out well because one of my friends/workmates is going to be in Bangkok during the time I needed off, so I can visit family and be a tourist too!

I also went to another palm reader. But I'll update on that next time.

Bad thing / Good things

Bad things:
Waiting in line for about 2 hours in the cold last night. Then spent another hour in stuck in the same room as exboyfriend (we ignored each other).

Good things:
It was to get a book and dvd signed by one of my fave directors. He was really nice and the reason it took so long was because he was having a quick chat with everyone and drew a pic of himself in every book/dvd/item that you brought.
I'm a bit afraid to read the book. The reviews say its a really good horror!
I was wearing my new Dream Coat. Looks good, hooded and waterproof? It does exist... for a price. $399.99 - but it was my "I just sold my house!" gift to myself.

Bad thing:
Went to the dentist and have to get a wisdom tooth pulled.

Good things:
Considering that I don't think I have been to the dentist in 10 years it is pretty amazing that that is the only thing I had wrong. I did need a pretty painful clean, but the words "nearly perfect teeth" were uttered.
I used to suck my thumb as a kid and my mother always told me that it would ruin my teeth so I am always happy when I go to the dentist and they say nice things about my teeth.
Should be able to get insurance for that tooth and I only have 1 wisdom tooth at all.

So really the Good things are winning!  : D

Thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts and good wishes!

Toto just turned up at home and immediately demanded some cuddles and attention.

Hope maya isn't too put out!

I'm delighted and so relieved.

Toto is missing.

A lot of stuff has been annoying and hard this week. But I think that was mostly because I was feeling sick, and exhausted from lack of sleep, the mentoring Marae stay and Amazing(ly like torture) Race and then moving house is just stress by itself.

But worst of all is that one of my cats, Totoro, has been missing since Tuesday night.
They had only been in the house for a few nights and then I left the door open. I thought it had closed, but I think it had just bounced back open. Maya turned up the next morning, but I haven't seen Toto since.

I feel guilty because the night before I had not got much sleep because Toto was crying for me to play with him all night, so I was going to wear earplugs that night so I wouldn't hear him. Now I really wish I could hear that oh so whiney cry!

But I've printed flyers to put in letter boxes and posted on a website that the SPCA recommended. Hopefully he will turn up soon. He is a pretty distinct looking cat.

Maya seems to be enjoying having the house to herself, although she does keep wanted to go outside.

Moving back home - apart from the disorganisation and living in boxes - seems to be ok so far.
Signing the legal documents about the change of ownership of the house today. Then tomorrow sleeping in and trying to recover from my cold. Also took Monday off work as annual leave to do house stuff.

Tinned Meat

After being emailed this rather lame swine flu joke  )the email converstation turned to weird tinned meats.

Which led me to googling these topics and coming across these sites:

Tinned Whole Chicken

Tinned Hamburger

Eww! Although part of me is like.. hmm how could I take those abominations and cook them in a way that makes them delicious.. is it possible?

Opera!

Yesterday evening as our group mentoring activity we went to The Italian Girl in Algiers. I'm not really a fan of Opera. I understand that it takes a lot of hardwork and talent, but it's just not something I've gotten into. Considering this it was quite an entertaining show. It had a really cool green screen set and some ridiculously silly costumes.

Unfortunately, it's still a lot to sit through for a bunch of 9-12 year olds, and I could see my mentee almost falling asleep at some points. It was also pretty long running. I left work early at 4.30 to run around and pick up 3 giggling girls and then I dropped them home after, so I think I got home about 9.30ish. I'm still tired from travelling, so went straight to bed.

It is quite fun having the giggling girls in the car though, especially with the latest interest in boys.
Examples )

Also booked my accomodation for July when I go up for a week to visit my newly engaged buddy. I like when work can be flexible and allow me to work in another office. But considering I am paying my own flights and accomodation they should be pretty happy about it all!

Raro Trip!

It was awesome! So good to catch up with so many of my girlie friends in such a beautiful setting.

It was a beautiful wedding ceremony and I got a lot of compliments for my Reading during the ceremony. I think this was mainly because I talked so loudly that you could actually hear me over the ocean, unlike a lot of the rest of the ceremony. It was really well planned and relaxed, and everyone looked all summery and cute. The food was delicious. I love baked Alaska now.

The holiday was so very relaxing and warm and now I am so freezing and cold. I'm glad my older sister stayed over last night so I could steal her body heat.

Spray tan was pretty cool. I have some real tan now, but not to the level of that spray tan. Also, now I'm all covered up in winter gear so you wouldn't notice.

I did a lot of snorkelling and loved feeding the fishies. There were so many colourful ones. Also ate heaps of delicious food, and plenty of junk food too. Kinda glad I went on that diet before hand because I definately got it all back!

I didn't take many pictures myself, but my friends took heaps. So if you have facebook - check me out there. I love the Pina Colada that's almost the size of my head. 1.8L fishbowl with about 10 shots in it.

Also, I got to drive a convertable, and make people feel like Magnum PI heehee. We named it CocoChanel. Our next car was just a little white 5 seater which we called Moshi Moshi. It was good for the 3 overcast/rainy days we had.

I found out one of my other friends got engaged while I was over there! Another beautiful bride on the way... I wonder how many weddings I will end up going to this year...?

Now I have to sort out moving house! Which will be a pain but I have a lot of cool things to look forward to this year and next. Also today my Dad bought me a digital camera for my birthday (it's a bit late but I am very very grateful)..it's pink!!

Super excited about Raro trip!

This week has felt really busy, but really good. Mostly because I am super excited about my weeklong trip to Rarotonga starting Sat. I'll be back on Sunday  10th at about 8am following a 6 hour wait at Auckland airport, so don't think I will be up to much.

I've been thinking about selling our house to my older sister and her husband, so was a bit preoccupied with that, and only really started getting ready for the trip this week. Been thinking about the flat and what to do with my stuff etc. I've been collecting cardboard boxes from work in preparation.

My week... )

Busy-ness

On Sat I went to go with my mentor or buy her some second handbooks, but I forgot that it was ANZAC day and so the stores were all closed. Lame-o. I might take her this Friday instead.

Spent the rest of the weekend with my older Sister and her Husband. Was fun times. Watched a lot of Bones season 3 and ate a lot of Feijoas. Yum yum yum. Also visited a friend that I hadn't seen in years with her cute little 4 year old.

I'm getting super excited about going to Rarotonga for a friends wedding in a weeks time. I still don't know what I'm wearing on the day. I will be doing a reading!

I bought some snorkelling gear to take along. Although we can get some from the hotel apparently it is easier to bring your own, to make sure you get a good set, and the flippers fit you etc.

It's pretty exciting because a lot of my good girl friends that I have had since high school or even earlier are coming along, so it's going to be an awesome trip!

Also, because it's going to be swimsuit wearing time, I'm trying to 'diet'. Mostly that means drink only water, eat a salad a day, and don't over indulge in junkfood. I'm just really glad it's feijoa season so I'm more inclined to eat them sooo much anyway rather than too much other snacking.

Somes Island trip and flatwarming

  • Apr. 19th, 2009 at 10:47 AM

Yesterday was a very good day.

The mentors and mentees caught the east by west ferry and went to Somes Island. It was a beautiful day for the trip, and my team won the scavenger hunt. ye-ah! The view from the top of the island was beautiful. Just as we were leaving we got to see a wild tuatara sunning itself on a concrete block.

It makes me really happy to see the group of shy little girls really coming out of their shells and being chatty and talkative and participating with everyone. Also really cool to see some of the mentees really looking out for each other and trying to get along. Although one kid did get splashed with water and another jumped off the wharf. These things happen.

After getting home and resting for a bit I headed off to a flatwarming at one of the mentor's new flats. It was a pretty cool flat in Aro. Kinda pokey and damp, but so cutes and homey too. This party was awesome for the crazy silliness. Also my hello kitty tshirt and my cute shoes (they have a lady bug, star, turtle, bumble bee and butterfly on them) got so many compliments! I ate chocolate cake and feijoas, danced and drank bubbly. Got called beautiful by a stranger and invited to other parties (which I can't attend - going to visit Giffle) next week. It was very enjoyable. And makes me tired today.

One annoying thing, is that paired (as opposed to single) people keep asking what devious things I have been up to, and then tell me to behave. Not really annoying, but kinda confusing. I am generally too well behaved for my own good I guess :P

I found out today that they are gonna block facebook and similar sites from work access in about a months time.
I hope this isn't the case with LJ too.

I really like seeing photos and what my friends are up to. I don't usually spend very long on there, but I know there are people who basically waste a whole heap of time on it.

It's actually kinda cool to see what everyone is doing when they are supposed to be working too : )

Not really feeling like posting right now, but will quickly update on what I'm up to over the next few days:

Thursday - boring ol work. although I am talking to a guy about getting involved in a project so I can get my accreditation for Green Belt Lean Six Sigma. That's still boring I guess. Hopefully will make it to Salsa too!

Friday - Taking my Mentee to 3D monsters vs Aliens with some of the other mentors and mentees. I'm really looking forward to it. I had my supervision the other day where I talk to one of the coordinators about how it's all going. So far I love it! and just as the Coordinator was walking down the street to see me my childhood best friend bumped into us, and it turns out she had done the same mentoring 3 years ago!

Saturday - Hen's Tea Party. Tea and cakes! Tea and cakes! Also everyone has to dress as a Fifties housewife. Funs. Then Drinks with Mentors in the evening.

Sunday - I feel like I have something on. But can't remember.. probably going to my folks house to check out the new quarters.

Monday - meet up with mentee to catch up on journal work. If we get properly caught up, then next Sat we are going to go to a second hand books store and get some books. My mentee has mentioned that she should read more books.

Busy silly weekend

 Had a very tiring weekend.

Friday I had a visit from a friend at work (and her 3 mnth old baby) and managed to use up 3 hours of my day hanging around with her and catching up.

Then it was a workmate's leaving do, and it was High School Musical prom themed. Very cool with an arch of red and white balloons and a Go Wildcats poster. It was a surprise and someone met her outside the meeting room with a Zach Effron mask on, and he gave her a corsage. She loved it. They also made her leaving card like a school year book.
Everyone dressed up, and some of the boys wore suit and ties and tried to dance, but after doing Salsa lessons, I was not very impressed with their leading skills.

Next I went to Flying Burrito Bro's for another workmate's Hens Night. Good food and yummy Margarita's. I didn't stay out late because...

Saturday, I had mentoring. We joined up with two other mentor/mentee pairs and went bowling at The Lanes. Goodtimes, and I was reallly impressed that my mentee was so excited when the other mentees did well, and although she was still afraid to try out the bowling, she still gave it a go, and then I think she really liked it.
After that, we watched some skater competition at Waitangi park and they played on the playground.

Then, met up with some friends at southern cross and ate junk food. Good to catch up and watch as the guys one of my friends was trying to set up with other people obviously liked her already!

Next was dinner at mum's restaurant with friends (including another bubby to cuddle) which was delicious. Then off to see Sok's awesome comedic acting talent at a play at PLT. Great night, and brilliant show!

Sunday, spent a large part of the day being an extra for Evinshire's webshow project. Lots of running around, falling over, lazying in the sun, and being a bit silly. Unfortunately today my body hates me with aches and pains from exercise that I'm not use to. I may have been stretching it a bit when I gave Wyldcard a piggy back ride. As Noo says, I should have stretched first.

Had dinner at mum's restaurant again, but this time it was for little bro's leaving dinner. Good to see he has a large bunch of good friends, and that I got to spent time with him before he leaves to live in Thailand. I think he was a bit surprised when I said that he needed to pack up all his stuff or we might throw it out when I move back home, but then I pointed out that Mum and Dad might sell the house (or just move out) before he comes back to the country (1-2 years time). If he just tells us what he wants to keep, we will pack it up for him.

This week I'm on a training course for work. Interesting and boring at the same time. Hard to sit still when you are all achey. It's fully catered at a hotel.. very yummy!

trucking along

Mentoring has been good so far this week. The journalling part of mentoring was kinda boring, and it was after work so I was pretty tired. I really didn't like journal work at school where you read something, then have to answer questions about it.

But the 'fun' day was cool. I took my mentor to my work, we tried Thai food, bought a present for another mentee's birthday, and watched some cook island drummers and dancers. And at the end when I was driving home I asked if she had fun, and she said "Yep, I had fun. It was the absolute most fun ever."! Yay that makes me so happy!!!!! I wasn't really sure at the time if she was having that good a time. But I think it's just fun to get away from the house and get to do what you want for a while.

At the start when we were on our way to work she asked me how people get rich. I wasn't sure how to answer, so I kinda said lots of different ways, but that the main ways were to work hard and to not waste money, and save.  Also, I had told her how to say "thank you" in Thai, and then when we were leaving the thai restaurant she asked how to say "goodbye". I love her curious nature!

Other stuff in my life:

Watched He's just not that into you yesterday with girly girls and stayed up late chatting with friends, and then since my elder sister was staying over we gossiped and chatted late into the night.

Was supposed to got into do a motor gymkhana thing with dad today, but then it was rainy. So instead visited a baby with dad and Giff.

Work is ok. Kinda busy, kinda average. I'm kinda getting used to not working in a field that I'm passionate about and just enjoying the fact that I have a good boss, and mostly good workmates.

At the moment, my thoughts keep drifting to the fact that I'm going to be moving out (back home to folks!)in a few months, and that maybe I should start organising things.. but I'm really in no rush. It's a good excuse to do a big spring clean though. Although, knowing my extreme laziness, that isn't gonna happen.

Yesterday I went to see my friend perform in The Hurly Burly Review, which was a lot of fun.
I was impressed by all the crazy pole dancing, and loved that the singing included many of my favourite songs!
Sassafrassle did some cool moves and I liked her mix of dancing style compared to the other's more traditional pole dancing styles. I wish she had looked up at the audience a bit more, especially when she was leaving while we were still clapping because I specifically shouted, Bye Sass very loudly!

There were some very humorous and more risque numbers too. And I would definitely recommend it to anyone! I think the show was better organised than the last one I went too, the dancing was a little more professional, and the seating was good, so that we could appreciate the show better, rather than worrying about our poor tootsies (mine are especially sore from wearing new shoes). Also great costuming! I hope it is more crowded tonight though, it didn't seem that full when I went.

Today I've come home early from work, cos I started to come down with something, and I don't want to get fully sick before mentoring camp tomorrow! I called my mentee today and she is also excited about it, so it should be good times.

Ah, mentor training was a bit of a chore today, which is a real shame. Very cool people and really interesting, but because I was so tired I felt like it was really hard work.

We talked about the camp we would be going on and about the journaling process and had a look at the books we would be reading and getting creative with. But because I was tired it was really hard to stay positive and not get in a grump and feel like I was being given homework. That's so not what it is about, but when I don't get enough sleep that's what happens.

Then came home for a few episodes of the IT crowd and a nap with Totoro cuddled with me. Then headed off to a hiphop dance show which is fund-raising for Seek dance crew - an all girl hiphop group that are going to the Dunedin Fringe Festival.

I really liked seeing them last year and if you ever get a chance to see them I would recommend it. The fundraising event consisted of several wellington based hiphop dance groups and some singing too. The little kids were very cute!

Just got home after a girls night out. Kinda Tipsy still.
Came home early cos I've got mentoring training tomorrow, and don't want to turn up all hung over.. That's not cool.

However, in this befuddled state of mind (which I like to term Crunkness) I thought, gee what the heck, I'm home early might as well update my L to the J. Also I prefer to have Noo home to rock out drunken rambling styles with. I feel like he enjoys the strange kinda exposure to my inner random self.

the only prob is having to retype every sentence coz it keeps making no sense.

Anyhoo. in true non-sober styles I want to shout out love to my peeps and homies.. you know who you are! (you're the guys that I hug even when I'm sober - and will still find this amusing.. what is going on!!!!?).

*virtual hugging/grope-age that you won't remember the next day*

Now for fillet o' fish and cheeseburgers
